Five Unusual Things to Do in Shanghai

If you've visited our beautiful city at least once you've probably seen many of the most common (but still amazing) things to do in Shanghai such as Yuyuan Garden, the Pearl TV Tower, the Jade Buddha Temple or perhaps even the unique bird and small animal market. But if you have more time or on a second or third visit, perhaps you might enjoy some of the more unusual things to do in Shanghai. Here are some ideas for Shanghai activities and sites that many foreigners don't experience, but are worth visiting if you have the time. 

1) Have Tea at the Moller House The “Dreamlike Castle” Moller Villa Hotel is in the center of Shanghai, I love having tea there with friends and enjoying the amazing architecture, gardens and... it's just cool.

​2) Check out the marriage market that takes place park every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at People's Park. Ok.. it's old-fashioned for parents to find a spouse for their kids, Just gawk... or maybe you'll find a cutie for your own child (or yourself?) 

3)  The Propaganda Poster Art Center exhibits posters from the Maoist period of communist China, especially from the Cultural Revolution period. Very cool historical period. The museum is located in the basement of an apartment building in Huashan Road facing Wukang Road,

4) Shanghai's 1933  (Old Millfun) - This cool and unusual building used to be a slaughterhouse! The blood and guts are gone, but you can still envision the slaughter among the shops and restaurants that now populate it's bays. A living M.C. Escher that is a must see! 

5) M50 Art District - Into art? This contemporary art district houses a thriving community of more than a hundred artists whose studios are open to the public. Often compared with New York's SoHo, it's an awesome area to leisurely get inspired. Located at 50 Moganshan Road. 

These are just some of the 100's of things you could find to do in Shanghai if you had the time. Of course a city the size of Shanghai can seem overwhelming at first, so we always recommend taking some time to discover all of its cool nuances. We hope to see you in Shanghai soon!
