We know that you have only limited time and finding the right tour guide is important to you! And unfortunately, you only have limited information before you must decide.
Here is what I think is important when you're seeking the right tour guide for your perfect tour of Shanghai:
Someone who is certified - Certified tour guides actually go to school for many months to learn about the history and culture of Shanghai. They must memorize dates, places and other facts and are tested on their ability to communicate this information in an interesting, but informative way.
A flexible attitude - Ok.. just because they know a lot, doesn't mean you want to hear it or see it all! A good tour guide is flexible in how they create the itinerary as well as share information about the places you see . If you just want to enjoy the serenity of a site, the guide should be flexible to interpret how you want to experience something and adjust their style. Some people also want all the details, others just want a feel for the area .
Is organized - Most guides are pretty organized (we have to be or we'd go insane :), but they should communicate clearly exactly when they will pick you up, the itinerary you will follow and keep you informed of any changes. We know that when you're in a strange city it is impossible to over communicate.
